Brachycephalic syndrome is a respiratory condition that is often found in short nosed dogs such as English bulldogs, French bulldogs, Pugs, Boston Terriers, and Pekingese. This condition causes upper airway abnormalities such as stenotic nares which are pinched nostrils, reverted laryngeal saccules, and an elongated soft palate. This anatomic abnormality that causes shortened bones is present at birth. Although it may be an anatomical abnormality, there are treatment options available such as oxygen therapy and corticosteroids.
